Dr. Brian J.G. Pereira: President, Chief Executive Officer and Director, Visterra, Inc.
Brian J. G. Pereira is a veteran biopharmaceutical and healthcare leader with experience in financing and growing companies. He is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine, the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences, and the Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Biodel Inc., and Chairman of NephroPlus, Ltd. Until November 2011, he was the President and CEO of AMAG Pharmaceuticals in Lexington, MA. At AMAG, Dr. Pereira raised four financing rounds at increasing valuations, and built the clinical development, manufacturing, supply-chain, and commercial infrastructure for the company's iron therapy product for anemia. He had previously served as President & CEO of the physician corporation at Tufts Medical Center and interim Chief Operating Officer at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. He is the former President of the National Kidney Foundation (USA), and member of the Board of Directors for ten years. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Harvard-MIT Biomedical Enterprise Program (BEP), and a Member of the Board of Advisors of the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences & Technology (HST) Program.
Dr. Pereira has an extensive knowledge of the factors affecting nephrology science, treatment and reimbursement. He served as an Assistant Editor for Seminars in Dialysis, Associate Editor for Advances in Renal Replacement Therapy and Editorial Boards of all the major scientific journals in nephrology and transplantation. He is a world-renowned researcher and educator in the field of nephrology. He was the Editor of the widely read textbook “Chronic Kidney Disease, Dialysis and Transplantation” which is the companion to Brenner & Rector’s “The Kidney”. He has authored over 200 scientific publications.
He received his MBBS from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore, India; MD (Internal Medicine) and DM (Nephrology) from the Post Graduate Institute (PGI) Chandigarh, India; and MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL.
Nikhil Pereira-Kamath: Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer & Chairman
Nikhil Lawrence Pereira-Kamath has over 15 years of experience in the dialysis space having previously run a non-for-profit organization, Youth That Care, whose mission was to provide assistance to the developing world via the establishment of dialysis centers. Youth That Care established dialysis centers across India and the first dialysis center in Burundi. Nik Co-Founded Africa Healthcare Network in 2015 with the goal of increasing access to care by increasing awareness and reducing the cost of care in the Sub-Saharan region while adhering to global standards of quality.
Previously, Nik worked in the private equity industry as an associate at Berkshire Partners, a Boston based investment firm with $11.0Bn+ in AUM. At Berkshire, Nik engaged in all aspects of the investment process, including Berkshire’s $2.1Bn acquisition and subsequent merger of Lightower Fiber Networks and Sidera Networks in 2013 and $875MM acquisition of the Portillo’s Restaurant Group in 2014. Additionally, Nik was a member of the Healthcare OnPoint Team – a core investment team that focuses on “getting smart” on the healthcare industry. Prior to joining Berkshire, he was an analyst at Morgan Stanley in the Healthcare Group where he focused primarily in biopharmaceuticals and healthcare services. Transactions at Morgan Stanley include the sale of Pharmasset to Gilead Sciences for $11.1Bn, sale of HealthDataInsights to HMS Holdings for $400MM, sale of Pharmaceutical Product Development to Carlyle and Hellman & Friedman for $3.9Bn. Prior to Morgan Stanley, he worked at Oxford Bioscience Partners where he worked as a research analyst, covering a portfolio company, FlowMedica. He holds a patent with Harry Goodson IV, Jeffrey Elkins and Samir Patel for the “Treatment Systems and Methods for Renal-Related Diseases”.
Nik was a Candidate for an MBA at Harvard Business School Class of 2016 where he received First Year Honors before deciding to defer his second year to launch AHN. Prior to joining Harvard Business School. Nik graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University with a degree in Economics and a certificate in Finance.
Dr. Lloyd Vincent M.D., D.M., M.Sc, C.H.E.: Co-Founder, Chief Medical Officer & Director
Dr. Lloyd Vincent is a Senior Consultant Nephrologist and Clinical Director of the Dialysis services at the Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospitals and Satellite centers, Bangalore, India. He was formerly Associate Professor and Head of Nephrology at St John\'s Medical College, Bangalore, India. In 1999, Dr Vincent was awarded the International Society of Nephrology Fellowship, to train in cadaver kidney transplantation at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA.
He received a Masters Degree in Medical Informatics from The Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands in 2001. Dr.Vincent completed a clinical nephrology fellowship from the University of Toronto, Canada in 2006, during which period he received the “Marc Goldstein Clinician of the year award - 2005”. In 2007, he completed a renal transplant fellowship from the Multiorgan Transplant Unit, University of Toronto, Canada and was awarded the fellowship of the American Society of Transplantation. His keen interest in nephrology and renal transplantation, informatics in healthcare, healthcare quality and the use of evidence in healthcare management led to the completion of a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Toronto in 2009.
He is currently an accredited Canadian Healthcare Executive and awarded the CHE degree. In addition, in India he is also currently involved with the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH), a constituent board of Quality Council of India as an assessor. His major interests and research publications have focused on renal transplantation, the various levels of prevention of diabetic renal disease, disease management in chronic care, use of quality in healthcare and also the use of information technology such as point of care devices for remote medical monitoring.
Dr. Kelechi Ohiri M.D., MPH., M.Sc: Managing Director, Flint Atlantic Capital Partners
Dr Kelechi Ohiri is a Managing Partner at Flint Atlantic and has over 15 years’ experience in the healthcare sector spanning clinical medicine, consultancy and advisory in the public and private sectors.
Kelechi has served as a Senior Adviser to the Ministers of Health and Finance in Nigeria. He was also an Engagement Manager with McKinsey and Company, where he served healthcare clients in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. His functional focus areas were private equity, strategy and organization design. Before McKinsey, Kelechi worked with the World Bank Group, focusing on strengthening health systems in emerging markets in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Kelechi has served on a number of global expert advisory panels for several international organizations, including the Institute of Medicine, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Bank and the World Health Organization and serves as Chair of a working group on Programmatic Sustainability for the Global Fund.
He is currently on the Board of the WHO’s Alliance for Health Systems and Policy Research. He is also a Visiting Scientist at the Harvard University, a Desmond Tutu fellow of the African Leadership Initiative and member of the Aspen Global Leadership network.
Dr Ohiri earned a medical degree from the University of Lagos. He also holds a Master of Public Health degree and a Master of Science in Health Policy and Management, both from Harvard University.
Neil Herson: President, ASD Healthcare - AmerisourceBergen
Neil Herson is President of ASD Healthcare, part of AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group, where he leads one of the nation's largest distributors of plasma-derived products, nephrology products, specialty products and vaccines. Neil Herson is a pioneer in the development of ASD Healthcare’s plasma and dialysis business, as well as its influenza vaccine distribution strategy. With two decades of experience in specialty pharmaceuticals, he leads the company’s strategic direction to ensure its continued growth. Mr. Herson has been with ASD Healthcare since 1995, previously serving in positions such as executive vice president and general manager. He was instrumental in pioneering the development of the company's blood plasma and dialysis business lines, as well as the company's influenza vaccine distribution strategy.
In addition, Mr. Herson shares his expertise with a variety of advocacy groups and serves as a board member at Bridge of Life – DaVita Medical Missions.
Mr. Herson was born and educated in South Africa. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business and law from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
